Something Old, Something New

In the last week and a half, I have finished off some nice, quick projects:

1) Marion #2 - this luciously soft cowl (had to explain the term to the b/f's dad - he then promptly decided he would never wear one) in Malabrigo Rasta in Natural, turned out to be an elegant piece to dress up any charcoal grey coat. Took me about 3 hours of distracted knitting going up to Whistler:

Super soft yarn - but very thick - along with huge plastic needles (size US 19 - 15.0 mm) - you need a good grasp on this one.

It really is like marshmellow chunks, or whipped meringue. Check out my project page on Ravelry.
2) Finished after a trip home from Whistler last weekend, is Marion #3, using Malabrigo Rasta in Solis. So pretty!

So pretty, and just right for the spring chills. Check out my project page.

You can also check out Marion #1 here.

Just before traveling to Whistler last week, I did finish my Susie's Reading Mitts fingerless gloves:

All blocked and done.

Getting up early one morning randomly, the morning of the vote of confidence (or lack there of) in the Canadian government, I eagerly wound up my skein of Springtree Road's On a Cloudy Day sock yarn. I love the bright yellow - a bright Tuscan yellow.

I then cast on for my next shawl of 2011, Celeano, by Rosemary (Romi) Hill. Fabulously well written in both chart and line by line. I really envisioned having a pointy yellow shawl - and this will be the one. I am going to add a bit of shine by adding beads just to the lace pattern border, not randomly throughout the garter stitch section like the pattern calls for. Too many beads otherwise, in my opinion.

To keep me interested, I have also started another shawl, Stephen West's Daybreak. I really wanted to start on Gourmet Crafter's sock yarn in Tofino Fern (love the colour), and I think this shawl has a great way of using a varageited yarn paired with a solid so it levels out each. A fine balance. Check out the gorgeous colours of the Tofino Fern:

Lovely! So springy.

A new project now with a deadline has come into my radar - and I just have to stand up to the challenge: Clapotis (pronounced Clap-o-T). Thanks to the crew at Urban Yarns, they are holding a Clapotis party on May 6th, and I just have to have one to produce. And it will count as a shawl (more like a stole). I am copying the best in the business by using Mini Maiden sock yarn by Handmaiden Fine Yarns in Cezanne:

I did just start to wind up last night, but found quite a few snags - so will be doing it by hand today. The other two shawls may take the back burner, but they will be close 2nd and 3rd place finishers.

Project Goals this week:

1) Complete Chart A of Celaeno
2) Wind and Cast on for Clapotis, set new goal by Friday.

Oh, and in other news - I LOVE what the VPL has done with their library catalogue. Feel like I'm on the Chapter's website.
Knit knit knit!
